Our Story

The heart of
authentic Hakka.

Hakka cuisine was born from a historic collision of cultures — the intense, aromatic spice of India meeting the fierce heat and wok-craft of traditional Chinese cooking.

At Super Hakka, we refuse to take shortcuts. Founded in 2012, our kitchen has proudly served the Scarborough community the most unapologetically bold comfort food around. Whether it's our signature Bombay Chicken, perfectly charred Crispy Ginger Beef, or our dangerously addictive Hakka Noodles — every single dish is fired to order.

Enormous portions, unapologetic flavours, and a kitchen that treats you like family. Sit down, dig in, and prepare to sweat.

Home / Our Story

Two cuisines,
one wok.

How a 19th-century migration became Scarborough's most-ordered comfort food.

Where It Started

From Meixian to Calcutta, Calcutta to Scarborough.

Hakka cuisine takes its name from the Hakka people, ethnic Chinese who settled in Kolkata (then Calcutta) in the late 1700s and built one of the world's most distinct culinary traditions in a neighbourhood called Tangra.

Cut off from mainland Chinese ingredients, Hakka cooks in India adapted — folding in local spices, chilies, and technique, married to the high-heat wok cooking of southern China. The result is its own cuisine entirely: garlicky, chili-forward, deeply savory, built for sharing.

That same story repeated itself again for many Hakka families who later resettled across the Caribbean, which is why you'll find Guyanese chow mein and fried rice sitting right alongside Bombay Chicken on our menu — it's the same lineage, one more border crossed.

Our Timeline

Twelve years
at the wok.

2012

Doors open on Lawrence Ave

Super Hakka opens at 1801 Lawrence Ave East, bringing Indian-Hakka Chinese food to Scarborough with a menu built on family recipes and a wood-handled wok that's still in the kitchen today.

2015

Caribbean menu joins the lineup

Guyanese chow mein, wing fried rice, and fried chicken are added — honouring the Hakka diaspora's second migration through the Caribbean.

2019

Bombay Chicken becomes the signature

Double-fried, tossed dry in Bombay masala — it becomes, by a wide margin, the most-ordered dish on the menu, and stays that way to this day.

In The Kitchen

Three rules we don't break.

01

Fired to order

No dish sits under a heat lamp. Every wok is lit the moment your order comes in, and it goes straight from flame to box.

02

Portions built to share

We cook the way a Hakka kitchen is supposed to — generously. Order for the table, not just for yourself.

03

Spice with intention

Our chilies aren't decoration. Every 🌶 on the menu means a dish was built around heat, not sprinkled with it.

Enormous portions.
Unapologetic flavour.

A kitchen that treats you like family. Sit down, dig in, and prepare to sweat.
